The Organizing Committee of the II Forum on Urban Violence meets in Madrid

With 129 days to go to the 2nd World Forum on Urban Violence and Education for Coexistence and Peace, the Organising Committee has once again met international, national and local representatives and the Mayoress of Madrid, Manuela Carmena.

On Monday 11th June, the Organising Committee of the 2nd World Forum on Urban Violence, which will be held in the Spanish capital from 5th to 8th November 2018, met  in Madrid, with the aim of designing an integrative programme that is capable of meeting the expectations generated for this latest edition.

Matadero Madrid, at the forefront of peace

This year’s chosen venue to host the second edition of the Forum reveals the desire to show how public space is another undeniable factor in the construction of cities of peace. Located alongside another reference in Madrid’s urban regeneration, Madrid Río, it boasts two rooms devoted to documentary film, various rooms devoted to stage arts, design, visual arts, exhibition study, experimentation and rehearsal rooms, as well as a public space, Plaza Matadero, unique in the city.

In just over a decade, Matadero Madrid, with more than 2000 activities a year, has placed Madrid at the forefront of the international scene and now it will be the venue for an event thanks to which Madrid will be placed in another helm: that of capitals of peace, bearing the City of Peace brand.

Integrated approach to violence

As in the first Forum, this second edition aims to address violence in cities from all perspectives and in all of its forms, dealing with aspects that had less space due to the intensity of the agenda: violence arising from the new technologies; violence in sport and, above all, gender-based violence, which will have its own section, with the incorporation of UN Women.
