The unique setting of this 2nd World Forum on Urban Violence and Education for Coexistence and Peace, will be hosting, among other activities:

WORK PROGRAMME

2 GREAT PLENARY SESSIONS: NAVE 16 / MATADERO MADRID

Venue:          Nave 16

Capacity:      500 people

Duration:     2 hours

The inauguration will take place on Monday 5 November at 4:30pm, and the closing ceremony for the Forum is set to take place on Thursday 8 November at 12:30 pm, in Nave 16, Matadero Madrid, a highly versatile exhibition space with the capacity to hold up to 980 people.

Open to the general public (with 4000m² of space, bearing in mind the capacity limitations) the two PLENARY SESSIONS will feature international and Spanish participants, reaching out to all the citizens of Madrid. It is open to all those who wish to attend, sharing challenges that this new global forum for peace will define on the global and Spanish agenda, and that of all the people of Madrid.

Following the opening, Nave 16 will also host the World Council of the Global Network of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) on Tuesday 6 November, and the XI Ibero-American Forum for Local Governments (Wednesday, 7 November), international events that will bring to the city of Madrid the contributions and perspectives of all the continents and their culture of Peace.

12 PLENARY SESSIONS: NAVE 16, CINETECA, NAVE TERNERAS, CASA DEL LECTOR

Venue:          Matadero: Nave 16 / Cineteca / Nave Terneras / Casa del Lector

Capacity:      250/300 people

Duration:     2 hours

Format:         Moderated events, with a very dynamic format, which will alternate projections, debates, and

                       dialogues, combined with participant interaction.

12 Thematic events: Coordinated by the Forum’s Technical Secretariat and Organising Committee

Nature of Events: Open to the public (subject to capacity limitations)

Each type of violence will be tackled at one of the 12 dynamic plenary sessions, which will feature a strong audiovisual component and open participation in conversations/dialogues. These will be coordinated by the Forum’s Technical Secretariat with the proposals and initiatives agreed by the Organising Committee, open to all those who wish to participate, through moderated debates with guest speakers, which will take place in large venues with the capacity for 300 people in order to open up dialogue and debate about:

– VIOLENCE ON SOCIAL MEDIA

– VIOLENCE AGAINST CHILDREN AND OLDER PEOPLE-VIOLENCE THROUGH RACISM AND XENOPHOBIA

– VIOLENCE THROUGH LGTBI PHOBIA

– VIOLENCE OF URBAN INEQUALITY, PUBLIC SPACE AND DIFFICULTY OF ACCESS TO HOUSING

– VIOLENCE TO DISPLACED PEOPLE AND REFUGEES: SANCTUARY CITIES

– APOROPHOBIA (SOCIAL EXCLUSION)

– INTER-RELIGION DIALOGUE

14 SIDE EVENTS

Format:         SELF-MANAGED events: Organised by social entities and platforms

Features:  Simultaneous translation (Spanish/English/French)

Themed activities: Proposed by participants prior to presenting projects and initiatives.

Projects will be selected by the Forum’s Technical Secretariat

Nature of Events: Open to the public (subject to capacity limitations)

4 UCLG POLICY COUNCILS

Organised and managed by the global network of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), based around specific issues related to models of harmonious coexistence and peace in the world’s cities, these will be open to all those who are looking to find out about ‘other perspectives on the world’ with the participation of senior local authorities and experts.

Capacity:            ROOMS holding approx. 200 people

Duration:           2 hours

Format:             Talks by high level guest speakers followed by discussion panels

Features:  Simultaneous translation (Spanish/English/French)

Themed activities:  To be proposed by UCLG organisers (to be defined)

Nature of Events:    Open to the public (subject to capacity limitations)

84 SELF-MANAGED WORKSHOPS

The organisers will compile SELF-MANAGED proposals, projects and initiatives from entities, public or private organisations, social platforms, collectives, academia, citizens, and all those who wish to be part of this process of transforming territories and cities. Projects (stands, working groups, debates, talks, cultural, artistic, exhibitions, performance, presentations, sporting, and others) will be evaluated and selected for inclusion in the programme. The organisers will provide and coordinate the space and time to run these events, valuing the plurality of projects and their alignment with the Forum’s values.

Venues:       CLASSROOMS: Different spaces around Matadero Madrid (rooms, classrooms, open spaces)

Duration:     45 minutes

Format:      SELF-MANAGED activities (the resources and requirements must be set out in the project)
